My essay

In the Information era that we are living in, sharing information has always been a controversial topic. While some individuals claim the merits of sharing information in scientific research, business, and the academic world, others think that this should not be the case for some information is of high importance or value. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and conclude with my personal view.

On the one hand, there are advantages of disseminating as much information as possible in these fields. Firstly, it can help to stimulate discussions and generate more ideas for a topic or an issue. This is believed to be helpful especially with a challenging topic or issue that scientists, businessmen, and academia are trying to resolve. Sharing information with each other in the field would give people different perspectives which can result in further examination to understand the issue. The more idea one has, the easier it might be to solve a problem. Secondly, sharing a great deal of information is deemed to help parties to reach a consensus on a debatable matter. This is because when people have much information they likely to have a thorough understanding of the matter and can agree with each other better.

On the other hand, exchanging information freely in research and business may not be ideal. Some crucial information such as novel discoveries or business strategies which are shared without consideration could detrimentally cause damage to an individual, a group of people or an organisation. For example, if an innovative marketing strategy of a company is shared it would be stolen by their competitors and the company would lose it chance to compete.

In conclusion, there are good points of sharing information in scientific research, business and the academic world; however, I am of the view that some information should not be shared because of its value.
