Please help to improve my Motivation letter for Master program

I am going to apply for a master program in EU and they require me to submit a motivation letter in which express my interest in the program.

My name is ------, I am 24 years old and I come from Vietnam. After obtaining the Bachelor of Law from ------, I started working for ------, one of the premiere reliable ------ in Ho Chi Minh City. My areas of practice focus on foreign investment, corporate services and labor by which I have the insights of the legal system in Vietnam. In the context of the globalization, Vietnam and other countries are required to be across their national boundaries to join the “level playing field” where every country has the equal incentives to each other. Since joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2007, Vietnam has attained many remarkable changes in economy together with the considerable improvement of the legal system to reflect its WTO’s commitments of market opening and other bilateral and multilateral agreements executed with other countries.

By contrast, this progress incidents to the wave of foreign investment and the enhancement of market competition that the domestic entrepreneurs and manufacturers have to confront with. It remains as a great challenge to Vietnam due to the overlap of the legal instruments and the unfamiliarity with the international trading rules. Therefore, in this situation, one of the significant requirements for both economists and jurists are to be profound with the economic reasoning and legal concepts so as to have the systematic understanding of the correlation of the legal policies and the economic sectors by which they are capable to analyze any legal problems and predict the effects of new legal regulations to the development of economy by way of applying the economic analysis of law.

Furthermore, I believe that a successful lawyer is one who can identify the commercial objectives and legal needs of clients so as to provide them with an accurate legal expertise applicable to their situations.

In consideration of the above, I decided to renounce my current job and seek for the chance to improve my analytical skill and broaden the savvy to the ology of law and economics. Therefore, with the strong confidence in the education quality of the reputable universities in the consortium and the erudition of their professors, I would like to express my desire to pursue the postgraduate program of ------ for the school year of ------.

Personally, the essential elements for my success in a master program are the schools and the program. ------ is thus an ideal with its uniqueness and challenges that make it be an appealing and rewarding postgraduate program for me to accomplish.

The first impression of the Program to me is that it is the higher education program which is appropriate for both law and economic graduates. The structure of dual teaching law and economics in one academic program is an extraordinary combination which can be hardly found in other postgraduate programs.All attendants will be firstly familiarized with both economic reasoning and legal concepts subject to their undergraduate degrees so as to prepare for further interdisciplinary researches. On the one hand, the Program delivers knowledge of economics and the skill of economic analysis of law to law students by putting them in the interaction with the practitioners and the economists. On the other hand, discussing economic matters in the aspects of the private and public law and in the comparison of various systems allow economic students to have a profound study of different legal frameworks and develop their legal backgrounds. By joining in the same courses, students of both majors can have chance to debate matters of law and economy in different angles by which they will gain their own outcome.

Additionally, after having a review of the Program’s modules, I have found that the features of the courses are the practicality and the internationality. Apart from the equipment of the basic notions of law and economics, the students will be provided with practical topics and case studies to discuss in order to build up their skills of analysis and evaluation in the methodologies of economics. Furthermore, the advantage is that the courses do not limit within the scope of a specific legal system, they are internationalized and of comparative kind between the system of the attendant’s country and other foreign systems. As a law graduate and also a legal practitioner, I see this as a great chance for me to profit the insightful understanding of other jurisprudence and expand the resources of case studies. I believe that those benefits will be helpful and necessary for me to deal with client’s matters afterward.

Another reason that I yearn to attend the Program is the opportunity to write the Master Thesis in which I can conduct the research and develop the topic of my Bachelor Dissertation in different approach. My graduation thesis of the undergraduate program which was written in French was about the comparison between the WTO’s regulations and Vietnamese laws after the adherence to this organization in 2007 and the illustration of the anti-dumping case study between domestic entrepreneurs and foreign importers. This dissertation only reflected the legal problems in the legal approach and less consideration of the economic aspects. With the knowledge of law and economics comprehended from ------, I can conduct the academic research to appraise the matter of codification of international conventions into domestic law from the angle of economics with the exemplification of Vietnamese legal systems.

Moreover, ------ offers an attractive opportunity for its attendants to study in at least two universities in abroad from which I will not only derive the advanced education but also experience diverse livings and cultures, create a networking with other students with different cultural and educational backgrounds. In addition, it would be my honor to introduce a new look of Vietnam, not through its old historic victories in the Wars but through its recent social economic development. This is as the connection and integration of my country to other regions of the world which is essential in this globalization era.

Finally, I see the chance to study and obtain the Master degree in abroad, in particular in Europe is an advantage by which I will have a firm foundation to pursue the doctorate program. Beside the continuation of my career as a lawyer when I am back to my home country, I would like deliver my knowledge to other undergraduate and postgraduate students of the law school because it would be an ideal when students can both absorb the theories and access to the practical matters.
