The only way to reduce the amount of traffic in cities today is by reducing the need for people to travel from home for work, education or shopping. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There is an increasing concern about traffic congestion in the cities so that some people would argue that limiting people commuting to works, schools or shopping centers is the mere way to reduce traffic jam. However, I am in favor of those who think that there are more effective ways to solve this problem rather than this less influential way.
On the one hand, although allowing fewer vehicles access to the cities could have an immediate effect in reducing heavy traffic, it would be hard in long-term as the demand of people traveling to the center increases over the time, which is unavoidable as the results of economic and social development.
On the other hand, I believe that apart from above way, there are other better ways to reduce traffic congestion. First thing can be considered is improving the transportation system, such as opening more lanes with a separated functions for each kind of transport. Secondly, a government can encourage people using public transport by imposing higher taxes on private cars and subsidizing bus tickets. These policies would ultimately not only help to reduce the level of transport heading to the cities but also deal with the need of residents to travel for their various purposes.
In conclusion, I disagree with the opinion that reducing the essential need of people for commuting is the only way to resolve traffic issue, in contrast, there are several beneficial ways to be considered to dissolve the given problem.
