Hi teachers,I have a problem with correcting the following sentences:Acorrding to Veterinanrian Carol Obsborne, he runs VetSmart Care Clinices, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio, the "pet craze" that going on with these days is a reaction in our stressful lives. "The world is going so fast, and everything's changing," she says. "But when you come home, no matter what problem you have or what you look like, no matter you got the job or lost the job, one constant in our lives that aren't changing is that simple conditional love that is given to us by our pets," she points out.Plsease help me, and tell me why they are wrong.Thanks in advance. ^_^Lindsay

"who" is relative pronoun heading relative clause, in apposition to C.O.

"that" is relative pronoun heading relative clause, which needs a verb, "is." ("that is" = "that's)

"What's going on with you these days?" (this is a different expression) "The thing that's going on these days is X."

"No matter you got the job or not" Some people skip the "if" here in casual conversation, but I think it belongs in a piece like this. Of course, you can argue that you're only quoting what she said!

"constant" is singular; "lives" is plural. "Constant" is the subject of the sentence, so it needs singular verbs."Constant - - - is" is correct. But the relative clause "that aren't changing" has a plural verb, and is therefore incorrect. "That" refers back to "constant," so must also take a singular verb, "that isn't." (My change to "which" is optional.)

conditional love vs. unconditional love: Your pet loves you only on condition you buy him steak and take him to see his girlfriend. vs. Your pet loves you no matter what.

Notice, in the middle of all these relative clauses, "that simple unconditional love" is only a noun clause (complement to "is"); and the word "that" is an adjective, telling which love. But the following "that" heads yet another relative clause.

1. "to go on" is a fixed phrase, or an idiom, or a compound verb, or all of those. It has two meanings:

(a) I can't go on. We must go on. (We must continue. We must persevere.) The show is going on in ten minutes. The train is going on to New York.

(b) What's going on? There's a war going on. (A war is happening. A war is in progress.) This is the one used in your example. The preposition which follows it is really optional, depending on what you want to say.
What's going on with you?
I'm going to see what's going on at the Youth Center.
Is anything special going on tonight?
The financial crisis which is now going on world wide will make life more difficult for a lot of people.
Turn on the TV. I want to see what's going on in the rest of the world.

2. Sorry about that. How did I miss it? " - - is a reaction in to our stressful lives - - - " I think I saw it on the first pass, and then forgot about it.

3. She said she would love me forever, but when I lost all my money, I found out that her love was conditional. She would only love me on the condition that I was rich.

His mother's love was unconditional. She continued to pay off her son's gambling debts, even though it meant giving up an operation that would have saved her life.
