Answer:

Vietnam economics is still based much on buying and selling products, traditionally or imported from developed countries, which brings Vietnamese with low added value. In some cases, there appears innovative product; however, as a result of knowledge and business skills shortage, especially commercialization skills, Vietnamese owner of the innovation has to sell it to a foreign company with very low price. If this situation continues, the value of research and development (R&D) cannot compensate for the large amount of time and money that R&D takes to invent and develop technology or innovative products. The Vietnam economics would, therefore, not develop or event not be stable, as the consequence of relying on importing high added value products. Technology and business must be two key points to strengthen one country’s economic and develop sustainable social life. Luckily I have found that technology and business should come together in some ways and paid much attention to the development of science and technology (S&T) enterprises, especially commercialization R&D results. Successful Commercializing Process needs various criteria such as Technology, Marketing, Financial, Intellectual Property and other resources, in which I found marketing play significant roles. I would like, therefore, to study marketing strategy. This degree is not only relevant to my educational background but also my experience and future plan.

Firstly, the Bachelor's degree in International Business and Economics has prepared me a firm knowledge of business and marketing, which would make the marketing master curriculum familiar to me. In addition, along with studying theoretical subjects at university, I have equipped myself well with on-trend digital marketing skills such as data analyzing, photoshop, website designing, e-advertising, etc. For example, I have based on Chili-web platform, designed and developed an introductory website for a bio-fertilizer company following the link: biofertilizervn.com.

Secondly, while working as a government official, in charge of S&T enterprises development, I have opportunities to work with many S&T start-ups as well as companies with innovative products. These experience would be valuable cases to share with my classmates in master course. For example, I have supported a 65-year-old scientist, whose first Azotobacter bio-fertilizer in Vietnam, in expanding her product’s market. Being a researcher with a passion for technology and entrepreneurship, she aims to increase environmental biodiversity, reduce chemical fertilizer as well as support farmer increasing the productivity. Due to lack of commercialization skills, however, her products have not yet been using popular on the Vietnam market although spontaneous and awesome her innovative product is. I am helping her on commercializing strategy and competing for the government grant supporting technology commercialization. At the very first stage, with my support in coordinating with provincial agricultural government bodies, the company has successful increase the azotobacter bio-fertilizer’s benefit awareness and extend Azotobacter Bio-fertilizer on Vietnam northern markets.

Finally, marketing course in the UK can help me to reach my ultimate goal of developing S&T enterprises, supporting the sustainable development of Vietnam. On the one hand, specializing in marketing techniques, marketing strategy and new product development strategy would help me to consult and support S&T enterprises on the marketing strategy, successfully commercializing R&D results. On the other hand, studying market research effectively would equip me with a deep market knowledge, which would be a valuable asset for an S&T policy with more market-driven vision, which means that the government would give the grant for R&D activities meet market demands or more marketable.
