The pie charts list five main rationales for students’ decision to study at a UK University in 1987 and 2007.
Overall, while the number of students opting for the University for its suitability of degree courses and relation with parental in 1987 rose after two decades, fewer people are concerned about its teaching quality, quality of resource and sporting and social activities in 2007 compared to 20 years before.
In detail, the percentage of surveyed students opting for the UK University as they felt suited to its degree courses in both years constituted the largest share of the charts, different by only two percentage points, 35% and 37%. In 1987, roughly one out of five students studied at the educational institution for its quality resource, about double that of the students choosing for being close to their parents. However, after 20 years, while the percentage of the former dropped by 4 percent, that of the latter nearly doubled. Additionally, whereas about one-third of students’ reasons to study at the university were its caliber and good fitness and social projects in 1987, 15 and 19 percent correspondingly, both ratios declined by approximately five in 2007.
