Task 1: The bar chart shows the percentage of households with cars in a European country between 1971 and 2001. Summarise the information by selecting reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. |
The bar chart compares the proportions of households owning automobiles in a European country from 1971 to 2001. Overall, the percentages of families with one car and more than two experienced a similar trajectory, with both fluctuating throughout the period, while that of non-car households decreased gradually.
In 1971, nearly half of all households did not have a car, at 46 percent. However, this percentage declined slowly over the rest of the given period, and finally reached approximately 28% in 2001.
In terms of one-car and more-than-two-car households, their percentages started below 35 percent, with the former being about 34 percent, outnumbering the latter by nearly 10 percent. After a decade, this 10-percent gap still remained, as their percentages increased in parallel to 43 percent and 33 percent correspondingly, prior to dropping marginally during the next ten years. Between 1991 and 2001, they recovered significantly, with respective figures being 53 percent and 35 percent.
