Please help review my IELTS writing task 1

Some people think that all University students should study whatever they like, others believe they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future such as those related to science and technology.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

A few people are of the opinion that students in the higher institutions of learning should be allowed to study courses of their choice while some others feel that they should be made to study only relevant courses that would be useful for them in the future for example science and technology related courses. In my own opinion, I think students should be given the liberty to make career choices irrespective of whether they are related to science and technology or not.

Firstly, people who are of the opinion that students should be made to choose their course of study do so because it enhance and increases motivation. Students are likely to do well , go far and be self motivated by love and passion in their chosen career if they made the choice themselves. Also enforcing students to make only science and technology related choices will on the long run wipe out other courses leading to their extinction as well as altering the diversity and uniqueness of the world population.

Alternatively, a few others who feel students should be made to study only useful courses such as those related to science and technology do so because it will make the students maintain relevance and stamina in the future. The world is investing more into science and technology which will subsequently take over the work force in the nearest future. For instance, the use of artificial intelligence and robots is soon going to replace the use of manpower in several sectors. With this, only the few science and technologically oriented ones will be able to sustain and maintain relevance.

Finally, I am of the opinion that students should be left alone to make career choices that interest them the most whether or not they are related to science and technology. With this they become self motivated leading to career progression and self actualization. Every field is important as each has its uniqueness with each contributing to the beauty and diversity of the world.
