Some people think that robots are very important to human's future development. Others think that they are dangerous and have negative effects on society. Discuss both opinions and give your personal view.

My answer:

From wheeled carts with robotic arms to human-looking waitresses working in a restaurant, robots have played an increasingly important part in our lives. Some people are sanguine about the future prevalence of robots, while others are apprehensive about the technological unemployment.

The advantages of integrating robots in human lives cannot be discounted. In healthcare field, machines can be programmed to establish diagnoses that are more accurate than those made by human doctors. Rather than relying on human doctors who are susceptible to tiredness when working overtime, which might negatively affect their judgements and productivity, future generations can receive more consistent service quality at hospital if robots are adopted. Other gains of automation can be seen in space exploration. Robots help search and study planet surfaces, reaching depths or heights where the atmosphere and heat exceed the limit humans can endure. Contributions to the development of healthcare service and space studies are only two of the many aspects of life enhanced by computerisation process.

However, automation is not welcomed by everyone, especially blue-collar workers. They fear of an automated future, where machines will substitute them to handle routine tasks. Not only are unskilled jobs vulnerable to unemployment but also highly skilled ones. Because artificial intelligence (AI) is believed to outperform humans in terms of precision and productivity, it is likely that these super humans might do away with the need for human labour in the coming decades.

Despite these opposite views, I strongly believe that it is impossible for robots to spell doom for the majority of human employees. Certain jobs are better done by humans, notably those involving empathy such as psychologists and teachers. Furthermore, humans should reap the benefits of technological advances to civilize our society while mitigating the drawbacks of robotic development in lieu of ceasing all AI research.
