Here are a few comments on the content, based on how such letters aree written here in Canada.

Say explicitly what job you are applying for, as the company may have many different kinds of vacancies.

End by asking politely for an interview.

I would just say ' I am available to start work immediately' instead of giving all the details of your situation at your previous job.

Letters of this nature is very personal, not only in words but style as well. There are some grammatical errors. I'll offer my version for your reference. It may or may not appeal to you but nonetheless, use what you can!

Oh, I have a curios question. Is this a real letter, or a make-belief one? If it’s real, my next comment is, you are a very confident man because you resigned from your employer before you are granted an interview by the company you like to work for. Anyhow, this is what I would say:

Dear Mr. Poh Ah Tee

I am writing to you to express my sincere interest in working for PD International as Mr. Paul Lin had introduced me to your company earlier. I have already submitted my resignation to my current employer on April 2007 and have fulfilled my 3 months notice. Currently, I am still serving my post as my employer has requested that I remain in this capacity until a qualified candidate is hired. However, I am available to start when good opportunity presents itself.

My resume is enclosed for your review. I genuinely believe my skills and education are ideally matched with your company and I will be most appreciative of your consideration to allow me an opportunity for an interview. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I realize this thread is several years old but since it just now came up as part of a Google search I would like to add some information which I hope someone finds helpful. I'm not an expert of grammar but believe the recommendations seen here are all grammatically correct. However from the perspective of writing a good cover the examples range from terrible to barely adequate. Unfortunately there isn't a standardized guide when it comes to writing cover letters or resumes and many of the self proclaimed experts online (most of whom charge for their services) have no relevant real world experience and advise people to do things a person in human resources with hiring experience would consider a red flag.
I came across this page in passing and don't have the time to point all of the things I would advise against doing and why. I just hope no one is using any of the examples of here as a template for their own cover letter. I'm unsure if there is a free community that would advise you on the do's and don't of cover letter and resume writing but if such a group exists I'd suggest seeking it out; just don't pay any of these hacks online for their help without doing research into their qualifications first.
