The graph below shows UK acid rain emissions, measured in millions of tones, from four different sectors between 1990 and 2007.

The line graph illustrates the changes in acid rain emissions of four different sectors in the UK over the period of 18 years.
In general, although the acid rain emission in Transport and communication sector had a slight and gradual increase, the other three sectors witnessed a significant drop in the amount of acid rain emission over the past 16 years.
Electricity, Gas and Water Supply began with the highest acid rain emission of approximately 3,4 million tones. Nevertheless, it then gradually decreased until 1997, followed by a slight fluctuation between 1997 and 2000, and a fall to 0,5 million tones in 2007.
Meanwhile, the figures for other industries remained stable in three phases, at about 2,1 million tones from 1990 to 1994, roughly 1,4 from 2001 to 2004 and 1,3 between 2005 and 2007.
The pattern of Domestic sector seemed to maintain a one- year period of gentle reduction and subsequently a three-year term of stability.
