Please Help Me With This Writing Task 2

Topic: Many manufactored food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar.

Do you agree or disagree?

It is sometimes argued that we should increase the price of products that high in levels of sugar to deter people from consuming those too much. While it is true that this kind of scheme could stop some people, especially teenagers, from overeating sugar, there are better solutions that we can do to change this unhealthy eating habit.

On the one hand, by making sugary foods and drinks less affordable, we can prevent young people from suffering obesity and various cardiovascular problems. As the youth do not always have a lot of money, so they are opted to choose the more nutrient-dense options instead. However, in some developed countries, people are willing to pay a prohibitive price for foods and drinks they like. In fact, rich countries have the highest number of overweight people and food-related illnesses. This solution, as a result, can only contribute a slight change when resolving this issue.

There are better approaches, however, to help people develop diets that can benefit them physically. For example, manufacturers can make the nutrient count more visible and less complicated so that when a consumer makes a purchase, they can make a better decision of whether or not they should buy it. Another way we can make our citizens have better well-being is to encourage companies to make more sugar-free or good-for-health products at a competitive price. Healthy foods and drinks are usually considered untasteful, boring and sometimes overpriced. Still, if we can make those options more delicious and tempting at a low cost to buyers, we can gradually shift our people focus to those options.

To conclude, as opposed to increasing the high-in-sugar items’ prices, we can take steps to change the consumer’s behaviour when buying and eating foods by making a nutrient count more accurate and providing more appetizing and economical options.

Thanks in advance!
