Please help me with this Harry Potter Riddle

Magical transportation?
Well, I'd say so.
Two saviors aided me,
Through time they did go.
But during this chance,
I saved what was right.
For on my back,
Rode the blackest of night.

Double letters of the same,
For me to be called on.
But a change was made,
So no ax would be drawn.
But in due time,
After a noble man's stand.
I returned to the patches,
Of my beloved home land.

Who am I?

It's in book 3, it flies, Hagrid introduces it to the students... I think it bites or tries to bite Draco. Sirius flies away on it at the end...

Book 3 was my favorite - until book 7. I remember it better

Well, I remember things, but, wouldn't be able to tell which book they belong!:)

(Is there any idiom to say "you've got a great memory" or something?
0
You can say "You have a memory like an elephant" or "You have a mind like a steel trap."

I wonder if other languages have the elephant expression, or why they got a reputation for having a good memory?

In Spanish there is the one of the elephant. I was once told that an elephant can remember you even if 10 years have passed since he saw you. (Who knows if it is true or not?)

Thanks for the idioms, I've just written them down!
