TOPIC: In many countries, imprisonment is the most common solution to crimes. However, some people believe that better education will be a more effective solution. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Ideas are controversial on whether providing education for offenders will be a more compelling way to deal with crimes than imprisoning. Personally, I agree that education would be a plausible and probably the most humanitarian solution, however I strongly believe that imprisonment is still an important method in certain degree.
On the one hand, providing lawbreakers education could be a effective measure in many ways. This is due to the fact that locking up criminals for a long time without doing anything is a waste of time. Instead, we should provide them with skills and knowledge so that they can become more employable. As a result, those people will be able to get a decent job when returning to the community, and hence less likely to recommit any crime.
On the other hand, I think we still need prison for several reasons. Firstly, some people are just morally wrong and therefore, imprisoning is the only way to protect innocent people from getting hurt by them. Furthermore, prison is not only a physical place to detain criminals, but also a embodiment of justice and fairness in society. It will act as a deterrent, which will constantly remind any would-be-lawbreaker that there would be serious consequences for wrongdoing, otherwise people will show no respect to laws and society will fall into chaos.
In conclusion, although education and training would offer a better opportunity for criminals to re-enter society, the existence of such punishments like imprisonment is still essential in the fight against crimes.
