Nowadays, criminals breaking into houses and buildings are increasingly growing. To prevent this, many people equip their houses, shops or even public places with CCTV cameras which are able to send television signals to their phones or certain screens. This has its own pros and cons. In this essay, I will discuss the reason why using CCTV cameras to fight against crimes is so popular and some of the challenges users may encounter.

I will start by looking at the positives CCTV cameras bring about for users. One of the main benefits is that when householders are out, they are able to still keep an eye on what their properties due to the ability of CCTV cameras to send videos or images to their phones. Secondly, shops and buildings are often packed with people during the day so those who are on duty of looking after the places may not be able to have an eye on all what is happening out there. CCTV cameras record and save every moment as videos and images for users to rewind and figure out what happened if there's a shoplifter, housebreaker and so on.

On the other hand, CCTV camera users may be in danger of leaking their videos and images of the properties or themselves which can be used against them by criminals. What I mean by this is many people, especially the rich such as businessmen or artists, who own huge fortunes install CCTV cameras around and inside their houses. The problem is that many of them are not aware that hackers may be able to have access to the system and steal data from it. Then they use the information extracted from the data to threaten the owner for a deal such as money, for example.

In short, using CCTV cameras has its own advantages and disadvantages; however, the owner should consider whether the cameras are recording their own critical information that can be used against them. If they know exactly how the cameras work, the positives may outweigh the negatives.
