The pie charts demonstrate the proportions of Oscar winners for seven different genres of film in 2003 and 2008. In general, there were changes in nearly all the genres between 2003 and 2008.
We can see from the pie charts that action films, romance films, documentary films and science fiction films gained more Oscars in 2008 than in 2003. Action films went up from about 20% in 2003 to just under a quarter in 2008. Others also increased by approximately a half between 2003 and 2008. On the other hand, the proportion of thriller films went down from nearly 50% in 2003 to a third in 2008. Similarly, the share of horror movies that won Oscars decreased sharply by fifty percent during this period. The percentage of comedy films remained relatively stable between 2003 and 2008 at about 5% because people at all ages like watching this type of movie.
