Ben is just your average teenager with some pretty unaverage goals. He has a mom and a dad and an older sister who is 19 and gets on his nerves just like any normal sibling relationship. He has lived in the same house, in St. Louis, since he was born. He’s had the same room his entire life with the same twin sized bed, which is interesting considering he’s nearly 6’3”. His dog, Nikon, is his best friend because he doesn’t judge his views and Nikon also has no friends which makes him the perfect companion. He enjoys kayaking, biking and weather. He attends high school at Afton High where he played golf and is in the tech club. He considers himself the president of the tech club, but explains that it is too small of a club to have appointed officers. He works at Chick Fil A and loves his job. His favorite part is the smiling coworkers he gets to work with. At work, he feels his coworkers would describe him as enjoyable, caring and stupidly funny. Many of his coworkers can attest to this being true. His life seems to be fairly typical for a 17-year-old boy. However, Ben has some unique aspirations, including his dream to be a meteorologist that he has had since he was seven years old. I have no fears,” Ben replied when asked about what scares him in life. Considering the thing he is most passionate about is storm chasing, this does not come off as much of a surprise. At the age of seven, a storm rolled in late one evening and knocked out some power lines. After the storm, he went out his front door and stared into the sky. “How did it go from so sunny to this?” Ben wondered. He was curious as to how the air and the weather was able to pull a branch from a tree and throw it with perfect aim into a power line causing darkness across town. He needed answers and decided at seven years old that his goal in life was going to be to find those answers. Ben has been curious about all things since he was a child. At the age of 8, he went down to his family-farm where they had an off road go kart. It was finally his turn to learn how to drive it. When he got into the driver’s seat, his feet could barely reach the pedals even with the seat moved forward. However, once he got going he fell in love with the power rush he felt. Ben also has many hidden talents such as singing, his vast knowledge of cars as well as his specialty for sand bagging before a storm. Ben was once featured in a magazine in a story called “Thrill of the Chase”. It talked about his love for storm chasing and how he attended the storm chasing convention as well as his first chase at the age of 14. While at the convention, Ben says that he realized that “these are my people” he said beaming. Ben is very humble when it comes to all his outstanding accomplishments. He says his purpose in life is to simply make someone else smile. He always sees the best in others and glows when he talks about the people who have inspired and impacted him the most. Every year, he goes and visits his kindergarten teacher, Miss Clark who always told Ben he would be a writer one day and inspired him through her loving and caring heart. He also enjoys reading the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” because it has taught him about life and other people. He has also had to overcome some obstacles to achieve the goals he has. He had a teacher in middle school who would throw things at students and tell them that they would end up working at McDonald’s their whole lives because they weren’t smart enough to do anything else. She even met with Ben’s parents during his eighth-grade year and told them that Ben would not succeed because he wasn’t smart enough. In 5-10 years Ben sees himself finished or nearly finished with college and on his way to becoming a meteorologist. He also has the goal of being an entrepreneur and owning his own business. Ben seems like just your average teenage boy on the outside, but once he begins talking about his amazing dreams and aspirations, it is unveiled that he is a curious dreamer with goals bigger than and F5 tornado.
