Please help me with this.

Allen: Where was Jack during the dinner hour last night? He wasn't answering his phone.
Romero: From what he told me, he was going out to eat with Lana, so he would have been eating at a restaurant at that time.


My first question is, is the use of would have correct in the sentence? And does ‘would have’ mean uncertainty or does it have implicit condition? Thank you in advance.

It shows uncertainty. Much more common is to say eg . so he was probably e ating at a restaurant at that time.
