In recent years, taking a gap year has gained popularity and caused much heated debate. While there are several drawbacks of taking a year off before studying in university, I suppose its values are more significant. This essay will look into both sides and demonstrate this point.

On the one hand, it is undeniable students can encounter some difficulties when delaying their university study. First and foremost, they will be later in career than those who do not take that. For instance, some students get involved in antisocial activities such as gambling and drug dealing during a long break from school. Additionally, it is understandably almost impossible for young people to enjoy their experiences in doing a job or travelling to a new place but still arrange a certain amount of time for revision.

On the other hand, I believe that the advantages of this decision would eclipse those analyzed disadvantages. The principal benefit is that taking a gap year is a valuable opportunity for students to evaluate their decisions on what they are going to major in. Doing a job related to their study will allow them to comprehend deeply about what they would do in the future and the working system in reality. Another positive aspect is that it is a great way to gain more essential experience and soft skills, permitting them to start their career without many problems. They will not only learn how to live independently and take care of themselves, but also acquire assertiveness and time management . Moreover, taking a gap year can allow young people to alleviate their stress in study.
