Topic: New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

It is true that using hi-fi technologies for entertainment purposes in leisure time has been becoming popular among youngsters. Although there are some benefits of this trend, I would argue that there are far more drawbacks.

The main benefit of the trend towards use of cutting-edge technologies is that young people could get access to enormous knowledge of mankind. They are more likely to broaden their horizons about various fields such as sport, travel, history and culture. Furthermore, they might widen their circle of friends from different parts of the world and strengthen the bond with them. Finally, teenagers are able to take advantage of high-tech gadgets for self-study. For example, they could sign up for distance learning educational programs.

Despite the positives mentioned above, I believe that excessive use of advanced technologies is a negative trend for various reasons. Firstly, keeping their eyes glued to the screens for hours on end encourages the sedentary lifestyle which keeps young generation physically inactive. They prefer playing video games or surfing the Internet rather than participating in outdoor activities, resulting in serious risks of many diseases such as back pain, obesity and eye-related problems. Another reason is that youngsters tend to be socially isolated. They devote most of their free time to immersing themselves in virtual world instead of maintaining family tie or friendship. As a result, this has a long-term negative impact on their communication skills and mental health.

In conclusion, while I recognize the benefits of up-to-date technologies, I consider it to be a negative trend overall.
