Topic: In recent years, the family structure has changed, as well as family roles. What are the changes that have occurred? Do you think these changes are positive and negative?

These days, there has been a redefinition of family forms and roles of family members. This situation holds overwhelming benefits for both parents and children.

There are several reasons why the switch of family systems happens, First, with smaller family size, nuclear families emerge as the most popular family form in recent times. Given that extended families largely used to be the norm, which is now not the case anymore as a typical family unit in contemporary society consists of parents and children. Today’s generation defies conventional family roles of husbands being breadwinners and their wives serving as homemakers. As a matter of fact, dual income households are on the rise because, in many places, women are no longer socially expected to become housewives and choose to enter the world of work instead.

The growing shift towards how the family is structured has produced various positive effects. Because multigenerational families are a thing in the past, small children are sent to childcare centers. Chances are they will make friends with children of the same age and develop interpersonal skills as well as acquire literacy and numeracy at an early age. Furthermore, families with two working parents achieve the greater financial stability that is more capable of providing the needs of their child. Once parents have more financial resources to invest in their offspring’s well-being and education of raising well-rounded children.

In conclusion, several reasons for the change in family systems can be identified. This trend yields certain positive outcomes for members of the family.
