The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.

The table given compares five distinct countries in term of consumer expenditure in three sectors in the years 2002.

Overall, of all five countries, food/drinks/tobacco registered highest item consumption. The proportion of consumer spending leisure/education was the smallest in each country shown. Another key feature is that Turkey had the biggest of consumer expenditure in the percentage for food/ drinks/tobacco and leisure/education.

In 2002, while Turkey had the highest percentage of food/drinks/tobacco, Ireland’s figure came to a close second, with 28.91 %. The comparable figures for Italy, Spain, Sweden was 16.36%, 18.8%, and 15.77% respectively.

In the same year, consumer spending in five countries shown in these remaining sectors constituted a small fraction of the total. The figure for leisure/education was consistently under 5% with Turkey holding the highest percentage at 4.35%, slightly lower than clothing and foot wear’s figure. The proportion of these items ranged from 5.40 to 6.63% of all countries with the exception of Italy at 9%.
