The line graph compares the quantity of commodities shipped by four various methods of transport from 1974 to 2002.
Overall, the amount of cargo delivered by road vehicles was by far the highest during the research period. By contrast, the figure for goods transported by pipeline was the lowest within this period.
In 1974, the quantity of products through road delivery was highest, at nearly 70 million tons, while the figure for pipeline shipment was lowest, only around 5 million tons. At the same time, the figures for waterborne and train freight were approximately equal, at roughly 40 million tons.
In 2002, the amount of goods carried by road increased slightly to around 100 million tons and remained the highest figure in the graph. Similarly, the figures for goods transported by the pipeline and maritime shipment experienced a slow rise to just over 20 million tons and more than 60 million tons, respectively. By contrast, the quantity of train transport goods remained unchanged, at approximately 40 million tons.
