Many people believe that social networking sites have had a huge negative impact on both individuals and society. To what extent do you agree? (Write at least 250 words).
In this age of technology, social media is flourishing than ever before and this trend is considered negative. From my perspective, the development of social networking sites has its advantages and disadvantages.
It is explicable why people claim online platforms could bring about numerous drawbacks. In terms of individuals, getting high exposure to social media may lead to addiction and health problems. The contents on social platforms are always written and designed to appeal to the audience; therefore, people, especially teenagers, may spend hours scrolling social media, resulting in addiction and some eye-related diseases. Regarding society, social networking sites could generate potential dangers. The first demerit is the spread of false information because social media allows users to alter and create rumors. The second downside is cybercrime, such as data theft, or hacking, as online platforms users are potential targets for online criminals due to their naivety.
Despite the negativities, social platforms still offer humans myriad benefits. Regarding personal merits, social media helps improve mental health because it provides users with several entertaining contents to unwind themselves. In terms of society, social networking sites have the power of connecting people from all corners of the world, resulting in a friendly and multinational community. Thanks to this, people could share information and even create positive movements globally. Take "Black lives matter", a movement that fights for equal treatment for black people, for example. It was formed by online platform users and received massive support from a large spectrum of people.
In conclusion, based on the above points, I firmly believe that social platforms generate both negativities and positivities.
