Motivation letter for studying at the UNIVERSITY

Dear Sir or Madam,

I want to express my interest in applying to the Master programme “XXX” starting in autumn 2012.

Currently I am studying the Bachelor programme “XXX” at the UNIVERSITY in CITY. I have a strong academic record and was during my studies always amongst the top three students of the degree programme. I believe that my educational background enables me to make a strong contribution at the university, as the degree programme provides the students with general knowledge in the fields of energy production, renewable energy systems and their integration in the energy network.

The reason why I have chosen this degree programme is that I am very interested in renewable energy systems. I strongly believe that there has to be a change from conventional energy sources like coal to renewable alternatives like solar or hydrogen power in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. While working on my bachelor thesis about the comparison of the environmental impact over the life cycle of different driving solutions, including electric cars, I determined that it is crucial to increase the ratio of renewable energy sources in the fuel mix of a country in order to achieve a lower environmental impact for electric cars. I really want to work at a company in the field of renewable energies and I think that my occupational area will be very challenging and dynamic, giving me the chance to change the world a little bit, hopefully to the better.

Furthermore I believe that your university could provide me with an adequate, high quality education and enhance my career opportunities due to the universities high reputation and the good education system in Sweden. Especially the topics “Environmental Aspects of Transport”, “Combustion Engineering”, “Sustainable Energy Futures” and “Sustainable Electrical Power Systems” would be of great interest for me.

In addition I also seek the opportunity to study abroad. I attended a summer school course at the London School of Economics and Political Science, stayed one semester abroad at the Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland and will do my internship at a company in Germany from January till May 2012. As a result I have already experiences in working together with people from many different countries and cultures and will not have problems studying outside of Austria. In my opinion, studying abroad with people having an international background is a great experience and enhances the study experience. Furthermore it is a strong asset for my future career, as I want to work in a company in an international environment.

I am a very organized and diligent person in the consecution of my goals. I also like to combine teamwork with individual work, since I think that teamwork is the key to achieve the expected results. I really look forward to join the master in XXX in order to prove my abilities and gain new skills.
