I am writing to apply for your post graduate masters scholarship in Globalization and Development studies that was advertised on your university website for the academic year 2012-2013. It’s really a great opportunity for me as a Ugandan student to apply to the Maastricht University for my postgraduate master’s degree and I am very pleased to say that studying with one of the best prestigious university in the whole world, with the best outstanding educational system will be of a great value and honor for me as a person and for my country Uganda.
As a citizen from a developing commonwealth country and as a person who really wish to accomplish an important milestone in my academic career, awarding me with this scholarship will be of recognition. Reading through your website and students and graduate testimonies I really become so much inspired and motivated in every thing your doing.
My main motivation in choosing this masters program is that this course is so relevant and good for me as a social worker who is so much interested in continuing to study and understand about global perspectives and developmental change a cross the world. As a Ugandan student who has been doing research and paying particular attention to the most challenges that has been hindering our development, this programme will help me to understand the more on how I can develop critical perspectives and respond to those global issues that have been affecting us in a real life situation. Since this course has been structured and designed with good practical and theoretical knowledge, I will be able to gain more knowledge and exposure on how to come out strong and deal with the current global crisis and developmental problems that have been affecting the entire world. It will also help us as Ugandans to acquire with new knowledge and skills that are so essential in guiding our actions and behaviors towards achieving a sustainable global development. And like they say, the only way to master change is to gain the knowledge to be a head of change.
Complementing on my academic achievements, I did a Bachelors Degree in Adult and Community Education from Kyambogo University and am very soon graduating in December of this year 2011. Throughout the past three years I have been at the university, I have been able to actively volunteer and participate with Non governmental organizations at the community level as an intern student, as a social worker and as an adult educator in a wider range of community activities. I have participated in communal garbage collection, facilitated functional adult literacy classes at the village level, organizing focused group discussion for the youth and as well as conducting Needs Assessment surveys.
As an intern student, a social worker and an adult educator, this practical field work experience has really helped me so much in gaining more exposure as well as new knowledge and skills; it has trained me to be more skills oriented, community oriented and practical in every thing I do which has enhanced my capacity and understanding. The fact that I have been able to work closely work with different groups of people with different cultural backgrounds, I have been able to develop good transferable skills and distinctive virtues in leadership and team work, excellent organizational skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, outstanding problem solving skills and facilitation and workforce skills among others which has helped me to enhance community participation and awareness.
Currently I have been recruited as a full time volunteer here in Uganda with Banda Community Development Programme (BCDP) as a field extension worker. Am responsible and in charge of initiating and promoting outreach community activities that mainly focuses on how to improve a health and good environmental hygiene. Am also working on a project that will focus on outreach environmental sustainability and clean up for our rural and urban centers.
As a diligent and dedicated person, I am really so confident that with that valuable exposure and experience I believe am the ideal candidate that will bring the enthusiasm you’re looking for in your program. I am really very sure that with my personal experience and cultural background I will exceed your expectations and bring a meaningful contribution to your programme.
I look forward to hearing from you and please if you require any information please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely yours,
Turyahebwa Ivan
