Topic: In some countries, some high school leavers are choosing to work or travel for a period of time before going to university. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of those school leavers’ decision. Give your own opinion.
It is true that these days some high school graduates in some countries tend to choose to work or travel during the gap year before apply in the university. While I accept that there are benefits and drawbacks of this statement, I would argue that it is better to have a period of time for students when they finish study in high school.
The decision for student to have a gap year is disadvantageous to some extent. Students who take the gap year may lose considerable knowledge that they learnt in high school. It is the big problem for students after a long time without academic in school. In addition, some students find the job and they are more likely to drop their higher education. When the students find a job that they enjoy and that career don’t need the degree of the university, they will earn their salary in that career and don’t choose the education in university.
On the other hand, I believe that school leavers have a period of time after graduate high school because of some undeniable advantages. Firstly, enable students have more time to make the right decision in what school that they will study and the career in their future. If the students have to decide the university when they still in the high school, they have a lot of stress in their study and they easily make wrong decision. Secondly, young graduates are able to gain some experience valuable in the gap year. When they travel in another city, they can exchange and study with different cultures and they can relieve their stress in high school. Therefore, they will feel more comfortable and choose more exactly in university when they take a gap year.
In conclusion, it seems to me that there are many advantages for students who takes a gap year, although this option has some notable disadvantages,
