Topic: What problems are associated with modern transportation methods? Propose at least two solutions that could alleviate these problems in the next century.

With the rapid development of science and technology, the world is witnessing a powerful advance of modern transportation methods. However, this advance also brings various issues to our environment and society. This essay with explore some major problems we are facing today, as well as addressing some solutions to them.

It is obvious that modern means of transportation have a generally negative effect on the environment. As most of them rely on fossil fuel to operate, their exhaustion pollutes the atmosphere with carbon dioxide, which is the culprit behind the greenhouse effect, and with it, global warming. Air pollution also causes respiratory problems and damages public health.

Aside from the environmental issue, there is also economic and social damage resulted from traffic congestion. A large number of privately owned vehicles, combining with an inadequate traffic infrastructure will lead to serious overloading during rush hours, especially in urban areas. Not only does this affect work productivity and cause billions of dollars of loss every year, but it also increases stress in citizens, thus lowers the quality of life in general.

Having said that, the situation is not all bleak and terrible, and a handful of actions can be taken to prevent or to lower the damage. First, the promotion of vehicles running on alternative sources of energy, such as electricity or hydrogen, can reduce the effect of fossil fuel emission on our environment. Another solution is to introduce vehicle sharing services and develop public transportation, so that people will depend less on private vehicles, which will relieve the pressure on the traffic system. These methods are already undergoing experimenting in many countries on the world at present, so it is highly possible that they will become the norm in the future.

Dealing with traffic problems is a task every government in the world must tackle, to ensure a better future for everyone.
