Topic: Some people believe that smartphones are destroying social interaction today. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Response
In this modern world, the proliferation of smartphones has brought up many changes into our live, especially in terms of communication. While some people claim that these gadgets are destroying the interaction in the society, I assert that they benefit our daily conversation colossally.
The fact that smartphones may pose a threat to face-to-face interaction might be the reason why people believe smartphones have negative ramifications on our social communication. Back to the day when there were no smartphones, people used to communicate via letters or large group meetings. Nevertheless, with the revolution of technology, people in this contemporary society no longer need to meet up at a café or exchanging letters to keep in touch with each other. As a result, many conversations are conducted online throughout phone calls and online messages. Even though there are people who are comfortable with this change, others claim that these screens act as invisible walls between people, precluding them from revealing their insight feelings authentically. Consequently, communication may lose its fundamental purpose which is helping people exposing real feelings.
Nevertheless, I contend that smartphones unfold the possibility of communicating in a novel and convenient way. As technology grows, more and more cutting-edge applications are brought to life such as Messengers, Instagrams and Vibers. These smart applications enable us to not only make normal voice calls but video calls as well. Interestingly, we could talk and see each other’s face at the same time while using adorable filters. This way, the interaction between people is made more fascinating due to smartphones. In addition, with the help of these intelligent gadgets, conversations could be made from all over the world. For instance, a person in Germany could still be able to call their parents at home in Vietnam without any charges. It is the infinite ability to create conversations regardless of time and spaces that makes smartphones gaining in popularity.
In conclusion, it is admitted that face-to-face interaction may be at risk due to the existence of smartphones. However, far from ruining social interaction, smartphones have expanded the feasibility to communicate between people in an incomparable convenient and novel way.
