PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY IELTS PART 2 ESSAY - POPULATION

Topic: At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people.

Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages?

Response

In our contemporary society, young people in some countries may outnumber its older people. This trend has its own pros and cons; however, I assert that the positive effects could outweigh the drawbacks.

To begin with, there are some negative points of this trend. First, a young nation run the risk of losing its core cultural values. In this modern world, the Internet enables us to integrate globally and gain access to other nations’ cultures. Many young people are absorbed in the variety and novelty of new cultures; therefore, they tend to neglect the priceless cultural values of their own countries. As a result, a nation’s unique features would face its demise. Take my cousin, a big fan of K-pop as an example. Even though she could roughly sing Korean and partly understand their culture, she has no clues about the traditional singing of Vietnam such as “quan ho”. Second, young people would be less experienced compared to the older ones. Despite being creative, the youth has little life experience, and their decision could sometimes inconclusive. If the country were put under a sudden threat, the young would be left bewildered since there is no seniors to give them advice.

Nevertheless, I believe that this trend does benefit our society a lots. First, the government could spend more money on the development of the economy rather than public welfare. Retired people have little contribution to the growth of the nation, since they are too old to work productively like young people. However, the government still needs to cover their pension and illness treatment. Were these spendings be cut out, there would be more money spent on the improvement of infrastructure and economic growth. Second, more young people equals greater workforce. Clearly, a strong workforce is a integral factor boosting the growth of a country. As mentioned above, old people’s working is out of the question; therefore, healthy and creative young adults are the most effective solution. In addition, while old people may be rigid in adopting new methods, young people are fast on the uptake. This special feature of the youth could produce splendid results in the competition with other nations.

In conclusion despite having some disadvantages, I contend that a relatively large number ò young adults would create more value for the society they live in.
