Essay & Composition Writing

Please help me with my essay. All the constructive criticism is appreciated.

TOPIC: At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large number of young adults, compared with the number of older people.
Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, in some parts of the world, the young population has become an emerging trend. The number of people who are in the working-age is significantly bigger than that of elders. However, there are both pros and cons to this circumstance. From my point of view, a positive ratio between people of working age and those of non-working age often has a positive effect on a country.

Let's start by looking at the advantages of having a considerable part of the population as young adults. One major benefit is that they can increase economic growth. What I mean by this is that young people tend to provide a strong, capable workforce which is the main factor behind the development of any country’s economy. Thanks to their contribution, the gross domestic product growth rate will be boosted.

Secondly, a large proportion of young people means that the labour cost would be lower in comparison with that of other countries. This factor would be considered attractive by many foreign investors. The capital of overseas companies is often valued by developing countries since the difference in the exchange rate usually results in profits for these nations.

On the other hand, the risk of unemployment for young people is a major problem. The heightened competition generally leads to fewer opportunities for everyone in the market. Unfortunately, young people who are unable to obtain a job could turn to illegal activities, such as robbery, to make a living.

Another drawback is that a young population, in the majority of cases, put a country at the risk of sharp population growth. This situation might seriously put a strain on health services, food, available accommodation along with the education system. As a result, children might grow up in poor living conditions and the future of the nation will be at stake.

All things considered, a young population is never an easy issue to deal with. The government and society must weigh up both the pros and cons. Personally, I think a large part of the population in working age is a golden opportunity for any country.
