Please help me with my essay?

Some think that governments should tax unhealthy foods to encourage people to eat healthier. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is true that unhealthy foods that are harmful to the body are increasingly becoming popular in modern society. Hence, it is argued that the government should pay a tax on unhealthy foods, which stimulates people to have a healthier diet. From my perspective, I totally agree with this statement for the following reasons.

First, imposing a high tax on harmful food can decrease the demand for consuming these foods. This is because if the price of food is twice higher than the original price , the majority of consumers will not be able to purchase it . As a result, people have a tendency to purchase cheaper ones such as vegetables and eggs that are good for health . For example, if the price of a hamburger is about three times higher than that of vegetables , people will choose to buy vegetables in lieu of an extortionate hamburger.Therefore, the government should levy a tax on harmful food to help people have a healthy diet.

Second , the government should levy a tax on unhealthy food, especially fast food. In fact ,most fast food also contains too much fat and grease , which causes disease both directly and via mediating factors such as weight gain and high blood pressure . As well as the caloric contributions of energy dense food and drinks , saturated fat leads to cardiovascular disease . Thus, if the government does not take action to deal with this issue, more and more people establish deleterious habits such as eating fast food on a regular basis so it is necessary for the government to pay a tax on harmful food with the aim of preventing people suffering from diseases caused by poisonous food.

In conclusion, it is important for the government to impose a tax on harmful food because it helps people have a healthier diet and avoid suffering diseases related to unhealthy food.
