Essay & Composition Writing

Please help me with my essay

For centuries, important parts of education remained such as reading, writing and maths. With the advent of computers, some people think that computer skills should be made as a fourth skill to be added to the list.

To what extent do you agree?

It is increasingly being suggested that computer skills should be added to the school curriculum as one of the traditional core skills like writing, reading, and mathematics. I completely agree with this advice.

First, students should be taught computer literacy from middle school to meet their academic needs in the future. As entering high school, they are likely to be given papers or assignments that often involve Internet research. Therefore, they should be able to use major browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari to conduct research and know how to identify authority and legitimate resources and fact-check information. Similarly, mastery of Microsoft Office will enable them to complete projects given in higher education such as presentations and theses. Thus, the more refined their computing skills, the better prepared they will be for their future education, and conversely. This can be widely seen in third-world countries, where not all children have the luxury of mastering computer skills. Millions of Vietnamese undergraduates, for example, struggle with their theses for graduation since they do not know basic World skills, such as adjusting margins and spacing, to satisfy the formatting requirement.

Second, computer literacy is now a requirement for virtually all intellectual jobs. Knowing how to use Microsoft office such as Word and Powerpoint to create documents, reports, and presentations is indispensable for desk jobs. Furthermore, professionals involving managing data such as accountants and financial analysts require applicants to be proficient in MS Excel. Furthermore, there is an unprecedentedly high demand for jobs in the IT sector as almost all companies integrate technology into their core or are undergoing digital transformation to increase their competitiveness. Consequently, mastering skills such as programming, web page design, and networking can help people find a job more easily, or even land a high-paying one. Hence, students should undoubtedly be well familiar with computer skills to prepare for their professional lives.

In conclusion, schools should prioritize the acquisition of computing skills to boost their students’ prospects of both academic and professional success.
