Please help me with my essay

As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual wellbeing.

What factors contribute to job satisfaction?

How realistic is the expectation of the job satisfaction for all workers?

Nowadays, people spend most of their life time working; therefore job satisfaction is a very important factor that contributes to their happiness. In this essay, I will describe some elements which influence job satisfaction and how realistic they are.

Job satisfaction is something for which every employee seeks. It is true that most people work to earn a living because they have to support themselves and their families. Salary (or income) is regarded as the primary factor that affects their satisfaction at work. They only feel happy with their job when they get a salary that according to them is equivalent to their abilities and efforts.

On the other hand, some people think they will be satisfied with their jobs if they can do what they are interested in. In fact, there have been many employees who are willing to give up well-paid jobs to pursue their passion. For instance, volunteers definitely do not work for money but they still look very happy whenever they carry on their job. In this case, money is not a considerable element contributing to job satisfaction. Volunteers are satisfied just because their work is worthy.

Working environment is also an important factor that should be taken account for. Of course, no one feels comfortable if they have to work with unfriendly and selfish co-workers, especially when they are working in a team. In addition, there are plenty of elements involving in job satisfaction such as work condition, boss behavior, promotion or further training.

In conclusion, we can hardly give an absolute definition of job satisfaction and determine which the most important factor affecting it is. Therefore, it is hard to say whether someone is satisfied with their work or not. I think job satisfaction is totally dependent on one’s opinion, target and purpose at work.
