New editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported? Discuss. (Cambridge IELTS 1) 250words
Without doubt, news plays a crucial role in the lives of people. Nowadays news are mostly being spread with the Internet, newspapers and TV broadcast. There are several factors which influence on editors' decisions what to broadcast.
First of all, these factors may include political factor. Political situation in country has got a doubtless impact on the nature of news. As an example let's take Iran. It is an orthodox country with strong Muslim beliefs. Almost all newspapers and TV broadcast news contain military issues which are fearsome. Another example is totalitarian countries such as former soviet union where was a strict censor. All news were misleading and editors were like real sycophants.
Other factors may include sensational stories which got a public interest. For example, news about the private lives of celebrities, especially scandals in political quarters when journalists have a field day.

Most of the time, we are exposed to bad news like viruses, food poisoning, natural disasters, accidents, scandals etc. After a while this bad news has no impact on us. There is less good news and it gets lost in all the bad news. I think we get accustomed to bad news and that is what we expect when we turn on the TV, radio, the internet or read a newspaper.
If more good news was shown, I think people would have a positive outlook to life and feel there is something to look forward to. Who wouldn’t be excited finding out about tax cuts, economic growth, low levels of unemployment, increasing of salaries, and decreasing of retirement age etc.

I firmly believe that bad news dominates in the media and makes us immune to it. Positive news is rare but more of it would be appreciated.
