This diagram is very confusing. It is difficult to see the how the information flows in the information gathering/presentation stage. But you can see it if you study the diagram very carefully. I have colored the lines so that they are easier to see.

Notice that the data from satellites covers a very large area, and is in the form of a photograph.

Data from radar is local data with clouds, wind, and rain information. It is in the form of a radar image.

Data from buoys has temperature, wave heights and wind velocity and direction.

All these data sources are combined on a large map called a synoptic chart.

Weathermen (Meteorologists) study these maps and their change over time to forecast future weather conditions.

The diagram illustrates the process of weather forecasting by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Overall, there are four steps, gathering data, combining, analyzing and processing it, preparing the forecast, and disseminating it to the public. There are three types of real-time data sources.

The raw data comes from satellites, radar stations, and weather buoys floating in the ocean around the country. The information from the satellite is an image of the entire continent and surrounding ocean with its cloud cover. The information from the radar station is also an image of clouds, but only for the local area around each individual station. Drifting buoys record wind speed, wind direction, temperature, air pressure, humidity and other meteorological data. Data from all three sources, satellite, radar and drifting buoys is transmitted in real-time to the computers in the forecasting center where they are combined on a synoptic chart.

The next step is to prepare the broadcast. At the final stage of the process, the weather forecast or weather alerts are delivered to the public on television, radio or a recorded announcement.
