The picture illustrates the process used by the Australia Bureau of Meteorology to forecast the weather.
There are four steps in the process, beginning with the collection information about weather. After that, this information is analyzed, prepared for presentation and broadcast to the public in the end.
At the first and second stages of the process, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects data from at least three different sources: satellites, radar stations, and drifting buoys. Satellite produces very large-scale images which are called satellite photos, while radar station receives information and present it with a radar screen. Besides that, incoming data which is collected from all three sources can be shown on a synoptic chart for analyzing and forecasting.
At the third stage, the official weather broadcast based on research results is prepared by a computer system. Finally, it will be brought to the public on the television, on the radio or as a recorded telephone announcement.
