Please help me with essay

Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Language barriers, in some cases, are believed to cause manifold problems both socially and practically. From my viewpoint, while i cannot refute the negative influence of living in foreign country on one's life, I strongly concur with the advantages that an individual can have when they live in a total new society.

On the one hand, it can not be denied that living in a society where people do not have the same mother tongue with us is really a hardship. Having a different language means having different cultures and habitats. Hence, this might bring about lots of misunderstandings or even conflicts during the time you live in one country. Take Vietnam as an illustrative example. There are not many Vietnamese who can speak English fluently. Therefore, the most challenging hurdle to overcome when an individual lives in this country is how to communicate with the locals. It seems that living in a society whose language is completely foreign to an individual is truely an inexorable obstacle.

On the other hand, being able to speak national language of the country that one is living in greatly benefits him/her in many ways. First, being in a foreign-language speaking country can be seen as a chance for an individual to be exposed to other new cultures and enhance his/ her understandings about that country. For instance, if a Vietnamese student studying overseas in England speak English fluently, he or she may easily have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fully expose to a beautiful Western culture that he or she has never been experienced. Thus, their knowlegdes are widen and the mutual understanding between them and the locals are promoted. Second, when it comes to study and work, being adapt to living in foreign country with the good speaking skill of that national language also puts an individual above his or her counterparts who can not communicate in foreign language. Many people are now getting well-paid jobs in the country not his/her hometown thanks to his/her adept foreign language skills.

In conclusion, while living in a country where you need to communicate in a foreign language is socially and pratically problems and how to overcome it is truly formidable, I strongly take the view that the opportunities and invaluable experiences gained are much worthier.

You wrote an essay that is much longer than the requirement. While you will not be penalized for this, it is better to concentrate on writing a shorter one that addresses the topic directly. You wrote an essay that answers a different question.
