Hi everyone!
I’m studying for TOEFL and I came across a sentence that I can understand it word by word, but have no idea what the whole thing is about. The passage reads:
A biologist defined a species as “an interbreeding population that does not interbreed with other such populations when there is opportunity to do so.”
So basically I can’t figure out 2 things:
1. What does the author mean by “ other such population” ?
2. What does the author mean by “ there’s opportunity to do so.” To do what exactly?
Looking forward for responses!
Thank you in advance!
