Please help me to understand the meaning apparently on below sentences

Please help me to understand what exactly the word apparently means in below sentences. It is really itching me lot.

1. Four special squads have been formed to probe the terror attack apparently targeting the BJP office here

2. The bomb, apparently strapped to the motorbike with a Tamil Nadu registration plate parked between a van and a car, went off around 10.30 AM

Top answer

The word "apparently" indicates that there is doubt or uncertainty about something. The bomb went off in front of the BJP office, but that office might have been an unlikely target for a bombing, and so this makes one wonder if that office was the actual target of the bombing. Investigators try to reconstruct the bomb from its fragments, and initial indications are that the bomb was strapped to a motorbike, as described in sentence 2, but this is early in the investigation and many things are still not completely certain.
