Please help me to revise this referee letter!
Dear Committee members:
It is my pleasure to recommend XXfor admission to Teaching Chinese as a second language at XXUniversity. I am a Chinese instructor at the XXAcademy, XXUniversity. I have known XXfor one year, having served as both her teacher and her internship instructor in the XXAcademy. I believe XXwould be an excellent addition to your programme.
XXhas taken the following courses that I teach: Introduction of Teaching Chinese as a second language and Interlanguage Study. In classes, XXhad proved herself as a diligent student who has motivation in teaching Chinese, plus Breadth of knowledge and good analytical skills. Her paper designed to analyze the errors in the writing tasks of Korean intermediate students demonstrated her ability to research problems in classes, to analyze the results of the research, and to write.
XXalso proved herself a sterling Chinese teacher. When she was a teacher with us, she was in charge of intermediate students in Intensive reading class. I was glad to see that she was capable to build a connection between educational theory and practice. At the beginning, just few students responded to her question actively, after analyzing the reason, we found she should adjust the order of questions. She adjusted the way of question in accordance with the order from easy to difficult questions, and also design all kinds of problems to allow students to practice vocabulary and sentences in a variety of ways. She is thorough and precise, the students' participation in the classroom is becoming more and more active.
XXis also the kind of assistant who sees something that needs to be done and takes care of it without being asked. She helps solve students’ problem on the text so that they can keep up with the progress of the class. XXalso excels in organizing activities. She has helped us to hold many activities, such as “World culture week” and the welcome party, which showed her ability of cooperation and communication. Meanwhile, our bulletin boards, walls and hall displays are works of art thanks to her talent with Chinese knot and paper cutting.
While she had just started out as a teacher, she understood her limitations and observed other experienced teachers closely to improve her abilities. Over the next two months, she showed remarkable progress and soon became an important part of our team. I know from discussions with colleagues and students in our academy that we all think Miss Zhou is an optimistic, energetic and resourceful person.
I am pleased that XXis planning to apply for a programme about teaching Chinese as a second language. She is one of the best students I have seen and is a talented teacher. Based upon the student's academic and internship performance, plus my understanding of the position for which the student is applying, I have no doubt that she has the skills, focus, and determination to successfully complete a master’s degree. She will be a dedicated student and a competent professional.
