Please help me to review my IELTS essay!!!
Topic: Some people believe that culture will be ruined if it is used to earn tourism revenue, but others consider that tourism is the only way of protecting a culture. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.
My essay:
It is undeniable that natural and historic heritage sites are major tourist attractions receiving a huge influx of visitors. However, its impact on cultural identity remains a source of constant debate. While some people believe that the local culture will be ruined by the incursion of tourists, opponents argue that it is the best way to save the civilization.
On the negative side, they state that tourism has impacted the level of pollution and condition of heritage sites. Apparently, visitors who show little respect for the sanctity of spiritual places cause damage to the unique nature and destroy the historic sites. Poorly managed tourism and tourism-related development can threaten their physical nature, integrity and significant characteristics. As a result, improving the tourism industry does not protect the native culture to some extent.
On the other hand, there are many reasons that lead them believe that tourism is one of the main contributory preserving the culture. When a historic place is made accessible to the public, it helps the local residents to raise the profile of the place generally. Tourism therefore is increasingly appreciated as a positive force for natural and cultural conservation by generating funding, educating the community and influencing policy. Moreover, although development of new technologies makes people of today not be able to take a look back on their cultures and traditions, tourism provides an important means and motivation for them to care for and maintain their heritage and cultural practices. Consequence,encouraging tourism helps foster the culture of a country.
In conclusion, while tourism development can have an advert impact on a place, its endeavour to save the culture should be appreciated.
