The users of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter are replacing face-to-face contact in this century. Do you think the advantages of this way outweigh the disadvantages?
Is social media genuinely a worthy alternative for facing contact? This issue has been in the spotlight over the nearest decades and still remains popular. There is no escaping the fact that social media, such as Facebook, Discord or Messenger is invented to be a latter-day replacement for direct contact but, however, it seems to me that the positive effects these technologies have brought to our lives overshadow the drawbacks.
On the one hand, social media can bring certain negative implications. One of those is people could unexpectedly have an inaccurate view concerning significant problems as a consequence of inauthentic facts and figures posted on such social sites. Furthermore, people are likely becoming distant from each other when they prefer using icons to express emotions rather than actual tone of voices. As a result, loneliness and misunderstanding are inevitable.
On the other hand, there are several obvious benefits that can be reaped from using social media platforms. Firstly, these sites are reasonable approaches for users to contact each other regardless of their distance. Social media consists of a variety of impressive features replacing face-to-face conversation with video call, online chatting or posts. Looking from an environmental perspective, person-to-person interaction requires a need of transportation which does lead to pollution. Exhaust fumes from vehicles also contribute to the deterioration of air quality, therefore damaging the respiratory system and giving rise to various infectious diseases, so using social media is the best choice in terms of environmental impact.
To sum up, while there are disadvantages of using social media instead of in-person contact, I acknowledge that it is still beneficial to users nowadays.
