Please help me to get married

Hi everybody, please help me with a short text that

discribes the moment he asked me.

I want to say the following:

My child stayed calm (unusual! ;-))

The voice of my boyfriend trembled while he asked.

And my answer coultn't be heard because I was crying.

My version with some emotions and what I hope the correct idioms:

Our son was telling silence,

my boyfriend breathed voice due to the most important question and my answer smothered with tears.

That's the moment we decided to begin our new life together.

Is that correct English or do I have to modify some expressions?

Thanks a lot for helping.

Regards

Your explanation is the correct approach, not your second version, which is hardly intelligible. Stick with this: My boyfriend's voice trembled as he asked me, and my answer couldn't be heard because I was crying. My child stayed calm as usual.
