Please help me to fix errors in my sentences

As we discussed in the last meeting, due to a lack of manpower, we can't cope with the current increase in project work. We are already five staff short in our department because of resignations.
I would like to employ five more persons in our department; one for joinery section, two for electrical section and two for mechanical section. I have already interviewed and selected the candidates among the application for this new employment

Under the circumstances, I would request you accede / approve to this request and kindly do the needful.
