To begin with, my current academic interests have a lot to do with what I have learnt from my high school and university. Doubtlessly, knowledge and skills that I acquired in those institutions pave the way for me to become a pharmaceutical researcher now.
Firstly, my life had a big shift when I came to xxx Highschool in my hometown. It was a great opportunity since I could spend more time to dig deep into my chosen subject, chemistry, than normal students could. Also, my studying environment is so favorable with great chemistry teachers and classmates. Those advantages set the stage for my interest in chemistry and related areas such as pharmaceutical sciences later. During high school, I also had chances to participate in many local and national chemistry contests in which I could face a lot of advanced knowledge and compete with hundreds of good students nationwide. This firm chemistry background inspire and facilitate me to learn manufacturing pharmacy.
More importantly, my current interest in manufacturing pharmacy stems directly from what I have experienced in University xxx. My university is one of two most prestigious pharmacy schools in X. In my university, I was taught and trained critical knowledge and skills of numerous subjects such as pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, drugs analysis and manufacturing pharmacy in order to become a qualified pharmaceutical researcher. Those experiences have been accompanying me in my career and greatly spur me to endlessly dig deep into my chosen field. .
2. In relation to your academic interests and personal perspectives, please describe your aptitude and motivation for the department of your choice, including your preparation for this field of study, your academic achievement and commitment. You may briefly elaborate in addition on any of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below.Becoming a pharmaceutical researcher has always been my cherished dream since I was a child. From secondary school to high school, I always paid intense attention to chemistry, the most basic subject for pharmaceutical major. Fortunately, chemistry came to me naturally and helped me to win some contests.
After that, during five years in undergraduate school, I always put my ceaseless effort into studying. Consequently, I ended up staying at thirteenth position among all the students in my course. Honorably, I was granted Certificate of merit for good performance in study and extracurricular activities during the whole undergraduate course which no student in top fifteenth can obtain. On the other hand, I was proud to be one of the youngest lab assistant in my Faculty from my second year. Working at Organic Chemistry laboratory, Pharmaceutical Industry laboratory and Analytical chemistry and medicine quality control laboratory was great opportunities to develop my time management, problem-solving, leadership and experimental skills. From hours working in those laboratories, I can practically exercise numerous pharmaceutical processes such as tableting, capsulizing, coating, UV - vis Spectrophotometry analysis, High Performance Liquid Chromatography analysis, Transdermal delivery, Nanoparticles technology. After graduation, I decided to work in Research and Development Laboratory of a pharmaceutical factory to keep learning large-scale technical skills which had not been taught in school. That choice gives me chances to face practical challenges and learn a lot of hands - on invaluable experiences in pharmaceutical production industry.
Besides academic field, I have participated in some music shows as singer and some sport events as player in my university and current company. Those experiences not only help me build confidence and character but also show me how to incorporate smoothly with other people in a team. Additionally, I also join xxx medical voluntary group to help the poor around the country.
From my experience, I apprehend that pharmaceutical industry in xxx is still in early stage of development. In fact, we are extremely short of well – qualified experts to develop domestic pharmaceutical products for poor people who can not afford imported medicines. Meanwhile, most of pharmacists are tempted to work for multinational corporations as sellers due to high salary instead of doing researches. Considering those facts, I want to study further in a Master’s program with Pharmaceutics major to become a true and able manufacturing pharmaceutical scientist. On the other hand, xxx in general and yyy University in particular is more and more being respected in Asia by their significant achievements in pharmaceutical field. xxx is also an appealing culture which has fascinated many international students around the world. Therefore, yyy will be a great destination for me to get updated with modern discoveries of xxx Pharmaceutical Industry, contact with top – qualified experts in this field and enjoy new cultural experiences.
Moreover, I am absolutely fascinated by research activities of XXX Laboratory managed by Professor YYY. In term of its research areas, obviously, the laboratory get involved in most of latest research trends in pharmaceutical field nowadays, for example, intranasal delivery, self-assembled nanoparticles for targeted delivery, skin delivery, etc. Hence, I am really eager to join this research team with my all capability. Doubtlessly, with all knowledge obtained from this mobility, I will much better contribute my effort to pharmaceutical research and education system in my country when I come back to xxx. Most importantly, in the future, I will be able to strengthen scientific relationship between xxx and yyy in my field of study.

Recently, human beings have witnessed an unprecedented change in recognition that has a profound influence on every fields and every people in the world. This change is summarized briefly in a book of Thomas Friedman, “The World Is Flat” and is opening the gate to the whole world for me and other developing countries’ students.
At first, the world is really flattened in many terms. In term of economy, the world today is composed of many components that depend on each others. Obviously, all contemporary huge corporations are international conglomerates which innumerable branches around the world. Therefore, science, manufacturing skills and knowledge are no longer confined to developed countries and must be circulated to any places where production is taking place. In term of science, nowadays, many influential researchers and breakthrough ideas are coming from Asian developing countries such as China or India. In term of education, many world-recognized universities are trying to attract as many international students as possible in order to not only enrich cutural diversity but also take advantage of new lines of thinking or new solutions to old problems from all around the world. More importantly, the booming development of world wide web, uploading systems and open-source softwares allow people easily get access to knowledge, finish their works and contact with the others from everywhere in the world.
Therefore, developing countries’ students, nowadays, are brought to very close to the door for the whole world. In this new era, we are facing the most favorable moment of history. The modern flattened world now is bringing more equal opportunities to students from developing countries. For example, through numerous academic forums in the world, students can exchange knowledge and get helps from other students and even professors. Furthermore, some renowned universities such as Havard, MIT, UC Berkeley, Cambridge etc. even launch all their audio or video lectures and open online teaching programs for internet users. The popularity of English as the most universal technical and scientific language also supplies students with a great communication mean. No matter where we come from, as long as we know English, we can start to exchange our brilliant ideas together. Meanwhile, there are more and more scholarships from everywhere to support perseverant and courageous students and help them open their eyes to the whole world. Personally, I think knowledge is spreading beyond any geographical and political boundaries.
In this situation, if we prepare to catch our opportunities appropriately, we will be able to realize our most unimaginable dreams. Let us take one of my friends as an example. He was a mathematics student at high school. Unfortunately, as his family’s wish, he learned pharmacy at undergraduate school. However, thanks to this flat world and his thorough preparation, he has still been pursuing mathematics. Besides ambition, determination and academic knowledge, possessing indispensable integration skills including foreign languages, soft skills and information technology skills help him to catch up with the movements of mathematics in the whole world. He is now considered as a young expert in inequality and cooperating with Hungarian and Russian professors to publish some mathematics books. For me, my mind has changed a lot since I first know about flat world and its opportunities. Via internet, I get connected with amazing students and professors in the world. I have information about scholarships and how to prepare for them. On the other hand, it is much easier for me to get references and absorb knowledge. Undoubtedly, current world make it possible to realize most unthinkable dreams.
In a nutshell, I am grateful to such people as Tim Berners Lee, Bill Gates, Larry Pages, Sergey Brin etc., creators and innovators of world wide web, information technology and free trading network. Those leading figures have been bringing me and other developing countries’ students to a whole new world full of equal chances that they have built up.
