Please help me to correct these sentences

It is confused about your comment that my child doesn't know the basic rules of Mathematics. I understand that he couldn't write well in last classes because I couldn't teach him at home as I was ill for last week; otherwise he could have written well.

When I look at his studies and understand that he didn't know anything about carry forward rules taught in the last classes because I didn't teach him at home.
