In the globalization age, the necessity of exporting domestic products, such as food, is by far the most priority to develop the economy of nations, this could be seen as a positive progress for both importers and exporters. In my personal perspective, I believe that the advantages of this development would eclipse the disadvantages which might be damaged for domestic markets.
There are several problems that the importer countries would not be able to cope. First, the activities of importing commodities could be harmful for the local business. The root of this issue is lack of competence of domestic market to compete with the international enterprises which usually come from the economically advanced countries. For example, the possibility of barkruptcy of local business providers in Vietnam has been increasing dramatically in recent year because they are suffering fiercely in the cut-throat battle with ones from oversea. Second, the quality of these products are varied. For the third world, the fragility of custom barriers in quality assurance could put customers who are living in such countries at risk which they might have to use GM or adulterated food.
Although these drawbacks are expressed above, the benefits of import could be hardly deniable. The scarcity of supplying food is common in some countries, such as China or India, this could be attributable to the explosive population. Importing seems to be a short-term measure to solve this issue. Furthermore, an amount of money which comes from such foreign trade accounts for the majority of state funding. Those money will be invest in upgrading infrastructrure systems, welfare and health insurance.
In conclusion, although there are some drawbacks of using foods which have been transited from oversea. But I strongly believe that the more benefits could be gained from this development.
