The first chart shows the difference between marriage and divorce rates in America over the course of 30 years from 1970. The second chart illustrates the figure for the marital status of American adults in 1970 and 2000.

Overall, the number of marriages experienced a downward trend. The majority of American adults were married in both recorded years, whereas the divorce rate increased in 2000.

According to the first graph, the marriage rate, which stood at 2.5 million, was the same in 1970 and 1980, before falling to 2 million marriages in 2000. In contrast, the number of divorces was registered at one million in 1970 and then peaked at nearly 1.5 million during the year 1980. After that, there was a gradual decline from 1.4 to 1 million between 1980 and 2000.

From the second graph, in 1970 and 2000, the figure for marriage was the highest on at 70 percent and 59 percent, respectively. Around 20% of American adults didn't want to get married in 2000 while the percentage of widows was slightly lower than in 2000.

This exercise is particularly tricky, because in the instructions it says "information about US marriage and divorce rates" , so it seduces the unwary student into using the term incorrectly in their essay. They may have done this specifically to test if the student knows the difference between rates and absolute numbers and how to use the terms properly. The chart really is about the rates, but what is given is not rates.

I have given you lots of feedback in the past weeks.

You have not ever (not one time) posted a revised essay with your corrections. So I don't know if you ever understood what mistakes you make and how to fix them.
