The charts below give information about the people use public library and the main reasons to visit in Britain in 1991 and 2000.

The bar charts compare the main purposes of British people coming to the public library between 1991 and 2000.

Overall, a majority of British in both 1991 and 2000, 65% and 55% respectively, went to a government-funded library in order to borrow or return a book.

In 1991, there was 10% of British citizens obtained information from the public library, whereas the percentage of people getting information from the library was two times higher in 2000 than in 1991. Instead, there were as twice as many people spending their time reading newspaper or magazine in public library in 2000 as in 1991.

The proportion of British citizens studying in government-funded library decreased dramatically, from 10% to 2%, over a period from 1991 to 2000. This trend might be because of a sharp rise in the percentage of people borrowing and returning videos at the library. Specifically, in 2000, there were as many as 18% of British people reaching to the public library for videos borrowing and returning purposes, compared to 0% in 1991.
